Q. Is your work guaranteed?

A. In addition to providing a three-year labor warranty on all residential installations, we also honor all manufacturer warranties. We also provide a 90-day warranty on all service work and a 30-day warranty on all replacement parts.

Q. My garage door was originally installed by someone else. Will you be able to do repairs or maintenance?

A. We can do repairs on all makes and models of both doors and openers. We also maintain a large inventory of parts from manufacturers who are no longer in business. If your door only requires a tune-up, we have a number of different service options available - including a yearly, no-obligation maintenance program. To enroll in this program request information here [link to Request Info form] and one of our sales representatives will contact you shortly.

Q. How do I measure my garage door?

A. There are three important measurements that every garage door installer needs to know before repairing or quoting your garage door. The height, measured from the bottom of the door to the top of the door, and the width, measured from one end of the door to the other, give the specific size of your door. Just as important, the headroom, measured from the top of your opening to the ceiling, gives our technicians an idea of your specific needs as they relate to the operation of your garage door.

Q. How do I know which garage door to choose?

A. A garage door is a very important and difficult purchasing decision, but we can help. Our highly-trained (both industry and manufacturer trained) sales staff can come to your home to help you make the most knowledgeable and educated decision possible. We understand that there are a number of major concerns any time a purchase like this is made; appearance, durability, usage, costs and maintenance should all be considerations in your decision. Q. Who will be performing the work on my garage door?

This is a great benefit to you, the customer, who deserves the safety and security of knowing exactly who is working on your home.

Q. What do IDA and IDEA accreditation mean to me, the customer?

A. IDA and IDEA membership and accreditation are extremely important. It shows you, the homeowner, that we are an established, professional organization that has taken all the necessary steps to beomce a successful and dedicated business. Only one percent of all garage door companies in the United States are accredited IDEA dealers, and Installation Services is proud to say that we are one of them.

Garage Door FAQs

Q. What are the benefits of an insulated garage door?

A. A garage door opening represents a large opening in your home's thermal barrier. Insulated doors will help to reduce the amount of outside temperatures that enters your garage, thus reducing the amount of energy required to cool or heat your home. Insulated doors also reduce noise from the exterior of your home.

Q. What maintenance is suggested for my garage or overhead door?

A. While we suggest a certified professional undertake any major repairs, there are some steps you can take to maintain your door. They are:

  • Periodically lubricate your garage or overhead door track. Call us to determine the best methods for lubricating your specific door.
  • Clean the frame’s weather stripping with vinyl cleaner and lubricate it once every other month with an appropriate product to keep the stripping pliable.
  • Inspect the rollers every six months and replace any that are worn or broken, or call us and have us replace them.
  • If you have painted door, periodically paint the exterior to help protect it from the elements.

Garage Door Longevity and Safety

Garage Door Springs

Garage door torsion springs are rated by cycle life, with 10,000 cycles ( a cycle being one opening and one closing action) the industry standard minimum. Upgrades are available up to around 100,000 cycles. The average spring breaks about every 7 to 12 years. If a garage door has two or more springs and one breaks, all springs should be replaced to maintain proper balance.

Garage Door Failure

The leading causes of garage door failure and/or replacement include lack of maintenance and being hit by vehicles. A proper maintenance schedule for a garage door includes lubrication of the rollers, bearings, pulleys, and springs once a year; washing painted steel surfaces several times a year; painting or refinishing wood surfaces as necessary; and making proper adjustments to the counter balance system as necessary to maintain door balance. A properly balanced garage door should be able to be stopped mid-travel without drifting down or up when operated manually. Different service options are available to maintain your door - call us for more details.

Garage Door Safety (from the International Door Association)

Do Not let children (or adults) play “beat the door.” It is dangerous and can result in serious injury or death. Adults should set a good example. Know how to use the emergency release, in case someone is pinned by the door.

Do Not let children play with or use the transmitters or remote controls. Always place and store them out of the reach of children.

The pushbutton wall control should be out of the reach of children (at least 5 feet from the floor) and away from all moving parts. Mount and use the button where you can clearly see the moving garage door.
